Benign Excision Surgery

Mohs Center of Richmond Dermatology

Benign excisions are minor surgical procedures performed to remove noncancerous growths from the skin or soft tissue (cyst, lipomas, skin tags, nevi(moles), dermatofibromas and other soft tissue lesions)

What to Expect Day of Surgery

Once the area for surgery has been numbed, the area is excised by making an incision around the lesion, including a relevant amount of clear skin dependent on diagnosis. The wound is then closed with stitches. Stitches usually remain in place for 7-14 days, unless dissolvable stitches are used. This is then sent to the laboratory for analysis, and you will be notified of the results within 7 days.
